Shaw Mobile launches for cable internet customers in BC, Alberta

Western Canadian cableco Shaw Communications launched its Shaw Mobile service on 30 July 2020 as scheduled, offering LTE services over its existing cellular network shared with its Freedom Mobile brand. At launch Shaw Mobile is being offered exclusively to Shaw Internet customers in British Columbia and Alberta, with mobile packages including a free-of-charge unlimited nationwide talk and text option, and 'Unlimited Data' plans starting at CAD45 (USD37) a month for 25GB (with reduced-speed access thereafter), plus CAD10 a month US and Mexico roaming options. Lighter mobile data users can opt for a 'By The Gig' data plan starting at CAD10 per GB with unused data automatically rolling over for up to 90 days. Subscribers also benefit from thousands of Shaw Wi-Fi hotspots across western Canada. Shaw's president Paul McAleese claimed: 'The launch of Shaw Mobile is the best example yet of how facilities-based providers can compete and innovate to deliver true wireless affordability. We are the only provider offering [CAD0] talk and text to internet customers in Canada and our data plans empower them to find an option that fits their unique needs.'
